We are still mourning the loss of our beloved custodian, Mr. Lou Laporte. In honor of his memory, we hosted an Ice Cream Day, bringing his request to life. Lou had once shared with the PTO his wish to replace one of our monthly popcorn days with an Ice Cream Sandwich Day in the spring. We felt there was no better way to honor him than to make this request accessible to all students.
The local nonprofit, Backyard Hope, generously provided ice cream for all students in memory of Lou. Lou’s sister, Mary, a dedicated board member and volunteer with Backyard Hope, helped make this gesture possible. Lou was quietly generous and always ensured that children who didn’t have money still felt included, whether it was by buying extra bags of popcorn or giving them money for the school store.
This event is a reflection of Lou’s spirit and legacy of kindness. While Backyard Hope isn’t a standing program at the school, they were happy to support this meaningful gesture in Lou’s memory. It was a small act of kindness that reflected the generosity Lou showed to others throughout his life. We are grateful for this opportunity to bring a little joy to our students while remembering someone who cared deeply for our school community.
