Our Utica City School District community is grieving the loss of Louis "Lou" Parrotta, a beloved social studies teacher at Thomas R. Proctor High School for 24 years, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 3. Lou was a larger-than-life personality who touched countless lives as an educator, Utica's unofficial City Historian, and dedicated community servant throughout the Mohawk Valley.
Mr. Parrotta's passion for history, his genuine care for students, and his unwavering commitment to his community made him truly exceptional. His unexpected passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of the students, colleagues, and community members whose lives he enriched through his teaching, mentorship, and tireless service. Lou's legacy of dedication, generosity, and love for learning will continue to inspire all who knew him. Our deepest condolences are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
